Blitz Unveils “Something to Believe” Short Film

Premiering today at OkayPlayer.com, “Something to Believe,” addresses the detachment we all battle when faced with the the world’s overwhelming issues. “It’s hard to think about all the problems in the world without getting a little overwhelmed. So, a lot of times we just ignore things. I think Africa has suffered a lot because people choose to remain ignorant, rather than address the issues that are right in front of our faces,” Blitz said.

“Something to Believe,” is the second film collaboration between director Terence Nance and Blitz the Ambassador. In early 2010, Terence and Blitz teamed up to film Live Sessions, a video series documenting the making of Blitz’ EP, StereoLive.

Stereotype:

Released in August 2009, Stereotype was one of the most successful independent releases of 2009, garnering praise from NPR, The Miami Herald, Okayplayer, Billboard Magazine, and many others. Blitz the Ambassador is currently working on his sophomore album, Native Son, slated for release in early 2011.

Ahmad Drops 2nd Song and Video from “The Death of Me”

Ahmad releases the song and video “Nig Can’t Tell Me Nunt”, the 2nd leak off his long-awaited sophomore album, The Death of Me (August 10th, WeCLAP). Ahmad sounds defiant on this track, rapping in the face of naysayers that labeled him a one hit wonder, a slightly different look than The Death of Me’s first track, the more light-hearted parody “Get Some Money & Go 2 Jail” featuring Crooked I.

“The first track made you laugh, this one will make you cry,” says Ahmad of “Nig Can’t Tell Me Nunt”. “It’s all about human emotions. We’ve all been in that place where someone is trying to tell you there is something you can’t do. We’re not trying to hear that anymore.”

The Death of Me drops August 10th on Ahmad’s own imprint, WeCLAP.

Ahmad Returns w/ Crooked I Collab – “Get Some Money & Go 2 Jail”

Ahmad Ali Lewis, best known for his seminal 1990’s nostalgic party anthem “Back in The Day”, is returning to the rap game with his long-anticipated sophomore album, The Death Of Me, set for release Tuesday, August 10th.

After taking a hiatus from music to complete his undergraduate studies at the prestigious Stanford University, Ahmad has been preparing for the release of The Death Of Me which kicks off with the lead single and video “Get Some Money & Go 2 Jail” featuring Crooked I, of the Shady Records super-group, Slaughterhouse.

“I wanted to provide for my family and secure my son’s future, but also Stanford gave me the opportunity to learn things I felt I should have already known. I never left the music alone though, so in a way, this album is a culmination of a decade of work behind the scenes.”

The set also features members of the Living Legends and production by The Machine and Medicine. The Death Of Me will be released on Ahmad’s own imprint WeCLAP.

P.So Readies “Suicide By Jellyfish” for Release 7/20/10

Indie hip-hop producer/emcee P.So the Earthtone King, who’s heralded mixtape Earthtones won him critical acclaim in 2009, is back with his next release, Suicide by Jellyfish, set for release Tuesday, July 20th.

Locking himself in the studio for months, and enlisting the emcee talents of fellow AOK Collective member 8thW1, the artist formerly known as P.Casso has quietly crafted a left-of-center, avant-garde audio trip. The project essentially is, at it’s core, hip-hop over indie rock, electro, remixes and mashups but where it differs is it’s introspective tone in regards to the matters of the heart and personal internal issues. The title is derived from the suicide method Will Smith employs in the film “Seven Pounds”. According to P.So, “Jellyfish is a metaphor for music, both beautiful and dangerous with a complex, changing form.”

While the samples and P.So-produced remixes of Paul McCartney, Chester French, Coldplay, Bjork, Flying Lotus, MadLib, Billie Holiday lend the project a plethora of grooves, 8thW1 adds a conversational flow and intentionally direct diction which challenges the listeners’ notion of hip-hop.

Suicide By Jellyfish drops in its entirety on Tuesday, July 20th but you can catch a preview with the snippets below. Enjoy!
