For the latest edition of Heineken Green Room, we brought together three East Coast artists who are really making a name for themselves in the Hip-Hop/Rap blogosphere.
The night started off with an always exciting and energetic DJ set with none other than Pro Era’s Powers Pleasant. We can always count on him to get the crowd moving and vibing in time for the main performances. Playing everything from Bodak Yellow to Headlock by Cousin Stizz, Powers Pleasant found the perfect balance between mainstream songs and music from up-and-comers.
Deem Spencer was up next. Deem had Southside Jamaica, Queens REPRESENTING last night. As he performed favorites like “Soap” and “eve’s titties”, it was evident that many deem spencer fans were in attendance based on all the voices singing along word for word. Queens was definitely in the house.
As soon as Joyner Lucas hit the stage, you knew that Joyner did not come to play. He started off with some of the strongest bars out and expressed through lyrics his annoyance with being compared to Logic. His songs covered topics that ranged from the struggles of having to resort to robbery to get by while also touching on softer topics like the importance of keeping the magic alive in a relationship and putting in effort “Just Because”. Despite being born and raised in Worcester, MA, Joyner still brought a sizable crowd out, especially on a Tuesday night. However, this is not surprising due to the success of his latest project “508-507-2209”.
