Blitz the Ambassador and Tanya Morgan have both been nominated for Best Independent Album of the Year by DJBooth.net’s annual “Best of the Booth” Awards. Blitz the Ambassador’s Stereotype (Embassy MVMT) and Tanya Morgan’s Brooklynati (Interdependent Media) were released earlier this year to much fanfare, both cracking iTunes’ Top Ten Hip-Hop Albums chart and receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike. The “Best of the Booth” nominations are based on journalist picks and user response to posts on the site throughout the year, with the fans choosing the final winner by voting online. The polls are open through December 30th and fans can cast their ballot at DJBooth.net.
Tanya Morgan received Best of 2009 list honors from AllMusic, eMusic and PopMatters while Time Out NY Music Editor, Steve Smith, chose Brooklynati (Listen/Download) as his #1 Album of the year across all genres. Tanya Morgan has big plans for 2010, with a headlining tour already in the works for March, support performances with Drake, Fabolous and Talib Kweli, as well as a solo album from group member Don Will, called Don Cusack in High Fidelity, set for release March 23rd.
Blitz the Ambassador’s Stereotype (Listen/Download) was also recognized as the Best Album of the Year by the Society of Cinema and the Arts, who said that despite his independent status, his use of “rousing horns beat-wise…and the passion and urgency with which Blitz delivers his rhymes make him impossible to write off.” December has been a busy month for Blitz, as he recently completed a recording session for MTVu’s House Band that featured John Forte, among other special guests, excerpts of which can be viewed here.
