BROCKHAMPTON SOLD OUT Highline Ballroom Twice in One Night!
September 15, 2017 8:16 amEveryone’s favorite boyband, BROCKHAMPTON, had a crazy night in New York on Monday, selling out Highline Ballroom not once, but twice in one night.
The Los Angeles-based alternative hip-hop collective/boyband has been bubbling since they released their first mixtape All-American Trash in 2016, followed by two albums Saturation and Saturation II this passed summer.
BROCKHAMPTON, who are originally from Texas, was started by school mates Kevin Abstract and Ameer Vahn. Currently, Brockhampton’s members are Matt Champion, Jabari Manwa, Kiko Merley, Ashlan Grey, Henock “HK” Sileshi, Merlyn Wood, Ciaran Ruaridh McDonald, Robert Ontinient, Romil Hemnani, Dominic Michael Simpson, and JOBA.
Their two New York City shows brought lines of teenagers, many of whom were in high school and out on a school night. That definitely did not stop them from going crazy as the show went on. It was hard to find a moment when the crowd wasn’t singing along to BROCKHAMPTON‘s catalogue, favorites including “SWEET“, “JELLO“, and “QUEER” from their most recent album Saturation II.
This show really embodied how accepting and progressive the post-Millennial generation (or iGen) really are – it truly was a safe space for all. Many of the songs focused on topics like race and sexuality in rap while also having a sense of humor, with Kevin Abstract singing lyrics like “Bruh, I don’t fuck with no white boys ‘Less the nigga Shawn Mendes“.
