Five time Latin Grammy winners, Calle 13, return to New York for a rare performance at the legendary Irving Plaza on Friday, May 6th.

Born from the mind of Rene Perez, “Residente” and his brother Eduardo Cabra, “Visitante”, Calle 13 has always challenged stereotypes of what one might expect from a Latin rap group. Originally classified as a Reggaeton, Calle 13’s music also peppers in aspects of other genres such as hip hop and electronica which results in their own unique sound.

Calle 13 garnered their initial buzz on in 2005 with their hit single “Se Vale To-To.” The song took over Puerto Rico radio, but it wasn’t until the release of their second single, “¡Atrévete Te, Te!,” that Calle 13 began to see traction in the U.S.. Yet another boost came from a collaboration with Nelly Furtado on a new version of “No Hay Igual” that was set to be released as both a single and a video largely for Latino markets. In 2007, Residente and Visitante released their second album, Residente o Visitante and took the number one Latin album title from none other than Jennifer Lopez. The duo then released their third album, Los de Atrás Vienen Conmigo, in 2009 featuring the hit single “No Hay Nadie Como Tu” with Mexican pop-rock megastars Café Tacuba. Calle 13 released their most recent album entitled, Entre Los Que Quieren, in November of 2010 and are now regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected acts in Latin urban music.
